Three of the following photos were taken during times of war. The fourth is a portrait.
Running for Shelter During the Air Raids
Robert Capa was a war photographer, he took pictures of different scenes of war. The picture above captures the people of Spain running for shelter from the air raids. I like how he captures the emotion on their faces, their fear and anxiety as they wait to see what will become of them. The mother with the child is the most concerned in the photo, as she fears for her child's life. I don't think people realize the horror of war and what it's like to live with it unless they are put in that situation. I think Capa did a wonderful job capturing this moment as scary and terrible as it is.
Liberation of France
Capa took this photo during the liberation of France. There is a lot of emotion going on in this photo. The women with the flower appears to be asking for peace while the soldiers look angry and ready to fight. I think that the message in this photo is that there shouldn't be war, there should be peace.
Picasso
Although Capa is most famous for his war photographs, he also did some portraits. The above portrait is Picasso with a skull in his art studio. I really like this particular photograph because of the look on Picasso's face. He kinda looks like he just heard something surprising.
The Falling Soldier
There is some controversy over whether or not this photo was actually done by Robert Capa. The photo depicts a soldier from the Spanish Civil War, who has been shot in the head and is now falling to his death. I think this a very emotional photo that shows the harsh reality of war. It's extremely sad that the life of this man was lost and the look on his face causes feelings of sadness to the viewer.
